“My first birth had been sabotaged by unnecessary sweeps and an 11 day stay in neonatal intensive care. I was clear this time that what I needed to change was the people I chose to have around me in my labour. I knew I couldn’t trust NHS staff with my HBAC, they would be too nervous and looking for reasons to transfer me, and because of that I would be on edge and unrelaxed.
So I chose a friend, and I chose my midwife (Kemi herself!), and we, alongside my husband and 3 year old, had what I can only describe as a birth party!
It was the most fun I’d ever had. I loved the music, the company, the food, the smells, I loved how long it took and how hard it was. I loved how it made me feel. And I’d do it again in a heartbeat.”
